lITTLE THEATRE PROJECT BEGINS IN CALICO ROCK
In mid-January 2012, a group of like-minded citizens gathered at the Calico Rock Music Hall to brainstorm about the creation of a theatre group to be located in Calico Rock. This project was discussed in earnest and many ideas came out of a very fruitful brainstorming session. Fredericka Silvey Johns has coordinated the formation of the group, which had two additional meetings after the original opening assembly. At each meeting, the group continued to grow in size and enthusiasm until such time as the group deemed it worthwhile to officially begin regular meetings. The genesis of forming a local little theatre group sprang from a conversation between Silvey Johns and Dale and Diane Ivy. All three have been involved in various local and professional theatres in other locales both in the US and in Europe Silvey Johns has explored several avenues to locate scripts from the theatre group which Barbara DeAngelo started years ago in the old Calico Rock Baptist Church, but was unsuccessful in her attempts. Obtaining scripts from other local, historical productions has proven more successful. The group is still young and is still exploring many different objectives and goals. It has developed a Constitution and By-laws. One of its goals which is starting to develop is the involvement of local schools in productions. Members of the group had a really lively session suggesting possible names for the theatre, which ranged from comical to geographical to drama-related monikers. The name Peppersauce Players was the obvious choice, the name deriving from the now infamous Peppersauce Alley back of Lower Main Street where the farmers many years ago parked their wagons and whiled away the afternoon as the ladies made their purchases on Main Street. Those passionate community-minded citizens who have met together to discuss the project include Fredericka Silvey Johns, Charles Francis, Reed M. Perryman, Dot Sanders, Annette Dixon, Diane and Dale Ivy, Chris and Carolyn Eck, Nancy Smith, Freda Cruse, Cheryl Coffey, Carolyn Wiseman, Jennifer Humphries, Peggy and Dean Hudson, Ed Matthews, Barbara Carlson, Kedra and David Sugg, Carol Nagy, Debbie Jolly, Linda Caperton Broder, Misty Neuman, Wayne Wood, Sharon Lane, Stacy Whiteaker, Laurie Lane, and Susan Varno.
